Oriental / Massage Cupping Therapy
Orinetal Cupping Therapy & Massage Cupping Bodywork are based on the common practice of Chinese cupping therapy. These versatile techniques, modified to accomplish a range of therapeutic effects, has been documented by many cultures, through several thousand years of clinical experience.
Cupping can be very sedating on the nervous system & clients often experience a deep state of relaxation. It is non irritating to the skin and very
result oriented producing amazingly different sensations. Clients also report that the effects of treatments last longer and have cumulative effects. Some common indications for cupping would be; anxiety, fibromyalgia, neuralgia, surgery adhesions, fatigue, chronic headaches, sluggish colon, cellulite, trigger points and muscle tension.
By using a variety of methods; including alternating pressure & speed, scooping, popping, crossfibering, gentle gliding and vigorous circles many results can be accomplished.
Cupping can be used to drain excess fluids & toxins by opening lymphatic pathways, increase circulation by bringing blood flow to stagnant skin & muscles, release rigid soft tissue, stubborn knots, and congested muscle tissue. Working deeply can loosen adhesions & lift connective tissue, while light work can releive general muscle tension and stress.
Swedish Massage
Better known as "The Classic Massage", Swedish massage has withstood the test of time. It is the starting point and the foundation for most massage, and where the layering of technique begins. Consisting of 4 major strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, and tapotement, generally performed with oils or lotions, and often including aromatherapy supporting relaxation. Swedish movements all work inward toward the heart and stimulate circulation. Some of the many benefits of a Swedish Massage include: stress relief, relaxation, lymphatic drainage, dissolving of adhesions and scar tissue, reduction of swelling, pain, and muscle tension, an enhanced feeling of over all well being, and a hightened sense of proprioception. The Swedish technique can be performed very gently, or with greater pressure, taking into consideration your health goals and sensitivity levels.
Kinesio Taping
• Tape over and around muscles to assist and give support or to prevent over- contraction.
• Affecting change in deeper layers of fascia by manipulating the skin and muscle.
• Creating space underneath the skin to improve circulation and lymphatic drainage.
• Utilizing a number of corrective techniques to promote correct muscle and joint function
• Pain relief by targeting the pain and the source of the pain
• Applying stretch to the tape or to the target area in order to create space under the skin and create the desired effect on the musculature.
Used to stimulate weak or underused muscles Used to relax tired or overused muscles
Deep Tissue Body Work
"Deep Tissue" is exactly what it sounds like, and is often integrated with other forms of body work. It is a combination of strokes perfomed in a deeper fashion, manipulating into the deeper layers of skin and muscle tissue. The therapist warms and softens the superficial layers of skin and manipulates the underlying layers of musculature and connective tissues known as fascia, taking the effects and benefits of massage to a deeper level. Deep Tissue Body Work is an excellent remedy for injury rehabilitation, reduction of pain and inflamation related to arthritis, tendonitis, and chronic muscular pain. As with a Swedish massage, deeper work can be performed within your tolerance levels for comfort, and is not always painful as it's reputaion would have you believe. It is important with any technique, especially deep tissue, that you communicate with the therapist about your tolerance for the pressure involved.
Reflexology
An Ancient form of body work that is derived from Chinese tradition, reflexology works with nerves and energy meridians rooted in our hands, feet, and ears. The feet are most commonly treated mapping corresponding sensitivities to other body parts, vital organs, or internal systems. It can also be performed on the hands or ears in cases of individuals with hyper or decreased sensitivity in the feet, or a medical condition that would suggest an alternate choice. This is an excellent way to work on an area of the body that is perhaps too painful to directly touch, and a profound technique that brings mind and body together with an incredible with sense of relatation, well being and, total connection.
